Indian fried rice is a vegetarian rice recipe of steamed Basmati rice stir-fried in a Kadahi with onion, tomato, green chili and some Indian spices. It is generally served in main course in India.
There are many variations of Indian veg fried rice recipe. I’m presenting here a very easy and basic Indian fried rice recipe which is also cooked in many families as fast food and also known as bachelor’s recipe because of ease of cooking.

Ingredients
- 150 gm Rice (Basmati Rice)
- 3 no. Onion (roughly chopped)
- 3 no. Tomato (roughly chopped)
- 2 no. Green Chili (roughly chopped)
- As per Taste Salt
- As per Taste Red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Vegetable Oil

Indian Fried Rice Recipe : Step by Step Instructions
- Wash rice and put in a heavy bottom pan with water, salt and vegetable oil and let your rice cook completely.
- Drain cooked rice and wash with cold water to remove the starch.
- Now heat oil in a pan.
- Crackle cumin seeds in hot oil and fry onion till light brown.
- Add tomato and green chili in it and cook till all the vegetables will become tender.
- Add all the spices in it and mix well.
- Add boiled rice in it and mix very well.
- Your delicious Indian Fried Rice is ready.
- You can serve it hot or at room temperature with curd, Indian pickles and coriander chutney.
Recipe Notes
- You can also prepare this fried rice recipe with leftover steamed rice.
- If Basmati rice is not available, you can use other varieties of rice. Basmati rice is recommended for this fried rice recipe because of its wonderful aroma.
