And why not, they are extremely healthy, a good source of protein and carbs, they are low in fat and calorie content. Rava items are very popular as a breakfast dish in south India and also as a snack which is easy and quick to prepare in the evening.
Semolina has a good supply of vital vitamins and minerals. The Potassium content in semolina or sooji supports good heart and kidney function and the smooth function of other muscles. Those who wish to lose weight since semolina is made from durum wheat (hard variety) and not the usual soft wheat which is used in bread making, it is digested slowly. Having a low glycemic index, sooji is ideal for those who wish to lose weight or those who have blood sugar problems.
Rava Idli is undoubtedly the “Queen of Instant Idlis”… This idli does not require all the tedious soaking,grinding, fermenting process as required by other idlis and comes out super delicious..! Rava idli is also known as, among others, suji idli or semolina idli. The softness of the idlis because of the curd or yogurt in the rava idli mixture. Idlis are about 2-3 inch wide, fluffy and relished for breakfast, lunch, snacks or dinner along with some finely ground coconut chutney and a hot steaming bowl of sambar.

- 150 gm Semolina
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 2 tsp Vegetable Oil (for greasing)
- 50 gm Yogurt
- to taste Salt
- as per requirement Water
- Mix semolina, salt, yogurt and baking soda in a bowl.
- Grease Idli stand with oil.
- Pour water in a big pen and let it boil.
- Now, pour idli mixture in the molds of idli stand and put it info pan to cook in steam on low flame for 15 to 20 minutes.
- let it cool and take out your cooked idlis with the help of knife.
- Your rawa idli is ready to serve with Coconut Chutney and Sambar.
