Sambar is an essential and traditional South Indian dish prepared habitually in every household. It accompanies almost every meal in South India. It is a perfect cereal and pulses combination that packs in the goodness of protein and carbohydrates due to the existence of number of veggies and tuvar dal which provides you fibre, minerals and other essential nutrients.
South Indian make it even more than once a day – for breakfast and later for lunch or dinner. It is a versatile dish that can be taken with rice, idli, dosa, vada, uttapam (upma), and just with any South Indian snack.
Let’s learn step by step cooking method of easy and tangy Sambar (सांभर रेसिपी).
- 100 gm Tuvar dal (Pigeon pea)
- 50 gm Bottle Gourd Roughly chopped
- 2 Onions Thinly sliced
- 5 Tomatoes Roughly chopped
- 5 tsp Tamarind pulp
- 4 Dried whole red chili pepper
- 1 tsp Black Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Asafoetida
- 15 Curry Leaves
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 2 tsp Sambar masala
- 2 tsp Coriander Powder
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 2 tbsp Oil
